Untuk membantu memelihara catatan mengenai manik di Indonesia itulah, maka buku ini disusun dengan seksama. Manik tidak mungkin ditempatkan kembali dalam suasana lingkungannya yang dipelajari dengan baik. Tetapi sekurang kurangnya mendokumentasikan apa yang dapat ditemukan, lebih baik daripada sama sekali tidak berbuat apa apa.
It is to help preserve a record of the beads in Indonesia that this volume has been put together with care. There is no way the beads can be placed back into their context so that they can be properly studied. But at least documenting what is to be found is better than nothing at all.
Saya merasa mendapat kehormatan diminta menyumbangkan kata pengantar pada buku ini. Saya melakukannya dengan mengucapkan terima kasih kepada kedua penulis atas segala kebaikan yang telah mereka lakukan untuk saya dengan harapan agar buku ini dapat memacu orang lain memahami bahwa manik kecil yang paling sederhana pun adalah bagian penting warisan kita bersama dan perlu diperlakukan dengan respek.

Introduction...in Indonesia beads are found in archaeological excavations near temples or religious sites, settlements and in graves...
