On sunday, I made a visit to the master of replica old beads maker, Mr. Suloso. We had little bit chit chat about Africa beads. And his wife came over. Bringing with her some of finished jewelry. She said the jewelleries ready to ship to Lombok. And I asked her is that sequenced using Salak beads. And yes indeed. Salak bead is name for special beads from Nusa Tenggara Timur and Nusa Tenggara Barat. The shape is just like mini drum with orange color. The color is gradation of orange, it might be from light orange to dark orange. Take a look to jewelry that I made, using Salak beads, Dayak beads and Africa beads below.
And then, our chit chat widened toward the history of Indonesia beads. Ohhh...I was so excited. Just like a child, I straightened my seat and started to listen to the story. He stood-up, "Tunggu Mbak Li" (wait a minutes Mbak Li). He came back with a book in his hand. My eyes was googled. ohh my ohh...I just seen a treasury. It really is not too old (published in 1993), but probably because the keeping is less neat, the book was exposed to rain drop and look so shabby. Last pages can't read anymore, cause the papers stick to each other *poor* And then I asked his permission to borrow the book. With hesitate he lent it to me in the end. I promise him will take a special care to the book.
I'll share the knowledge from this book above to all of you, page by page. It's important to know our own beads history. As the book written in both Bahasa and English, it give me a pleasure. So foreighner can enjoy the knowledge of our beads. *Coming soon*
